Run entirely through Apple’s Home app, HomeKit doesn’t require a hub to run a smart home. The only device needed is a smartphone or iPad, although adding a hub is recommended to view and control devices while away from the home. Apple HomeKit has higher levels of security than other smart home companies, but a smaller list of compatible devices in exchange. Apple HomeKit uses WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity.
